The rosy economic promises of sports teams hardly ever come true. Subsidies for sports facilities cost taxpayers more than they get in return. Real economic development happens when we invest in public goods that improve the lives of everyone. Check out this panel on Thursday.

As we said clearly during the Issue 38 campaign, our city needs more democracy, not more power to status quo politicians and the billionaires and wealthy developers who fund them. This legislation moves us in the wrong direction.

We encourage Cleveland residents to add your name to this letter denouncing the legislation and its rushed timeline. This legislation will ‘pad the campaign coffers of sitting council members by increasing the power of the wealthy.' The rush to pass this undermines public trust.
