They wrote us off. The polls and pundits had already decided the outcome of the election last fall. But the people of Newfoundland and Labrador had the final say. What followed was a true comeback story built on hard work, determination, and a belief in something better for all of us.

The future of offshore energy is being built right here in Newfoundland and Labrador. At @WeAreEnergyNL, I made it clear: we will continue attracting investment, driving exploration, and standing proudly behind our oil and gas industry. No apologies. Just opportunity for all of us.

Today, Minister @LelaEvansNL shared her breast cancer diagnosis with the people of the province. Her openness is an important reminder of the need to recognize early warning signs and prioritize regular screening and early diagnosis. We are all thinking of her today, and we know she will continue to face this challenge with the same strength, dedication, and resilience she brings to her public service. She has our full support, always.

At the 2026 Energy NL Conference, we announced a call for exploration bids on 16 offshore parcels off Newfoundland and Labrador’s east coast, alongside a $90 million Offshore Exploration Fund designed to attract new investment and support offshore oil and gas development. The next Bay du Nord is out there, and our province is going to be part of it.

Marine Atlantic is a lifeline for our province, and our government will continue to press the Government of Canada to ensure this service is fully recognized, fully supported, and protected as essential to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. The results are in. John Hogan and the Opposition Liberals voted against our new PC Budget. The same Party that voted to give themselves secret bonuses this time last year have now voted against measures aimed at delivering better health care, lower taxes, and safer communities. The Liberals had a choice, and once again they chose themselves over the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

One flaw in the current Churchill Falls MOU is clear. Since 2007, mining activity on the Quebec side of the Labrador Trough has grown by 125%, while growth on our side has been just 45%. Why? Quebec had the power. It is time to develop our own industries, especially in Labrador. More power. More value. More transmission. For All of Us.

Ripping up one bad deal from 1969 with another is not the answer. Had the current MOU proceeded, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians could have been left carrying up to $30 billion in additional debt. Our government is going back to the table with one clear objective: secure the best possible deal for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. Full stop. More power. More value. More transmission. For All of Us.

We all live under the shadow of the 1969 Churchill Falls agreement. If tearing up one bad deal means signing another, we will be forcing future generations to live under that same shadow. I will never sign such a deal.

Today, we honour the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls in Newfoundland & Labrador and across Canada. We stand in solidarity with families, survivors, and communities, listening and learning as we support their calls for justice, healing, and lasting change.

On Thursday, April 30, we received the independent review of the Churchill Falls Memorandum of Understanding. This is one of the most important public policy issues facing Newfoundland and Labrador, which is why our government will release the report publicly on Tuesday, May 19. The report is undergoing a technical and legal review for commercially sensitive information before the committee's findings are shared with the people of the province. My focus remains clear: getting the best possible deal for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
