Known as the "Prayer of the Alt Knight," the meme has been traced back to a member of the far-right Proud Boys group and endorses police brutality” “A police review board recommended that the officer…be fired. Bureau leaders declined.” kgw.com/article/news/local/p…

The mission of Portland Street Response is to provide an unarmed, compassionate 911 response to assist people experiencing a crisis. They respond to 911 calls that would have previously been dispatched to armed police officers or otherwise received no response.

Rene ends his 2 years in office as he started: a bumbling, ineffective mess with zero accomplishments. That’s why he was booted from office, finishing a distance 3rd place. He couldn’t even manage his campaign budget, and ended up in serious debt. Good riddance.
Aaaand an update: this has been removed from the agenda, since it doesn’t have unanimous support.

A lame duck Council should not be making sweeping reactionary policies at the request of a DA who hasn’t even taken office yet. Let the newly elected Council, our most diverse ever, decide when they take office in 2 weeks.
For those curious, the city's once-dead graffiti ordinance (which sticks offenders w/ jail time) was brought back to life for Portland's final city council mtg of the year tomorrow, as a request by incoming DA Vasquez. Bckgrnd here by @sophiegreenleaf wweek.com/news/2024/10/15/go…

We desperately need to expand our shelter capacity, and the biggest obstacle to quickly bringing more shelter online is this kind of NIMBYISM and the elected leaders that cater to them.
A county spokesperson said the project does not include a good neighbor agreement because it's not in a residential area. But some neighbors think the neighborhood deserves a say.

For weeks, debate has swirled around what to make of the undervote in City Council races. But the study indicates that, whatever reasons people had for leaving those ovals blank, it wasn’t because they were confused about how ranked-choice voting worked. wweek.com/news/city/2024/12/…

“For the first time in more than 100 years, every neighborhood in the city will have representation on the City Council. The Council will be the most diverse - by age, income, gender, race, and geography - in history.” oregonlive.com/opinion/2024/…

“The Oregonian’s reporting is more of the same kind of disenfranchisement that East Portlanders have experienced for generations - people making assumptions without the full story, yet insisting on telling someone else’s story.”

The Oregonian makes the extremely dubious claim that Ranked Choice Voting "cratered" voter engagement. 🧐 Ummmm... the Mercury's Wm. Steven Humphrey would like to have a word. portlandmercury.com/opinion/…

I don’t think an entirely lame duck Council should be locking the new Council into a decade long contract. This is a long, complicated issue that’s going to require a real assessment of who benefits and why.
With a lucrative contract that gives unchecked control to a powerful business lobby, Portlanders are urging City Council to table a vote on a boundary expansion and $58 million contract renewal for Downtown Portland Clean & Safe. portlandmercury.com/news/202…

This is just the latest fallout from poor City leadership, led by @CommissionerRG. Portland Street Response is a critical, lifesaving program that our next Mayor and Council must restore and expand as part of an improved, modern first response system.
The head of Portland Street Response quietly resigned Oct. 28, a week before a citywide election that has made the fledgling first response program a central issue. opb.org/article/2024/11/12/p…

Be wary of candidates who lost their election and are excusing their loss by attacking ranked choice voting and/or our small donor program. Losing is hard, but let’s hope these candidates can accept losing with grace and not attack our local democracy.
