New: Niwa will defund its Air Quality Team as the crown research institute looks to cut costs. It comes after I reported last week that just one staffer at MfE has been tasked with upgrading air pollution rules over the past three years.

Today I spoke alongside @DrTedros, Director General of @WHO, at #WHA77 about how to implement a new resolution that calls on member states to treat health as an investment, not a cost & to make #HealthForAll a goal of economic policy, building on the recommendations of the @Economy4Health Council I chaired.

In NZ we smugly think our air quality is OK. Wrong answer! Being predominantly coastal we just have more wind than most. Locally, poor air quality impacts asthma and heart disease. Note, if we do better, the planet wins too.
