Time to introduce our second #PLATIAL'26 keynote talk by Alice Butler-Warke. The keynote will examine how negative reputations of places develop, become entrenched, and are maintained. Several interrelated sub-processes will be considered: naming, shaming, and blaming.

This year's #PLATIAL23 event will feature two exciting excursions! One will take us to #ZecheZollern, one of the finest, art nouveau landmarks of Dortmund's mining heritage. There we will learn how Dortmund and the Ruhr (and narratives about them) have changed dramatically. 1/2

A second excursion (led by @JCzierpka) will take us to Nordstadt, a once burgeois area that was closely linked to the fate of the nearby steelworks and is now a major arrival district for immigrants. The extent of the changes we will get to know was and is remarkable! 2/2
