Environmental professions can be alienating for Black people due to exclusion & lack of diversity. This #BlackHistoryMonth, we're profiling Black British people who are breaking the green ceiling, inspire us to go outdoors & demonstrate how powerful representation is.

There is no invention or innovation that will solve climate change for us. All we have to do is stop over-extracting resources, creating waste thru over consumption, and reestablish our habitats thru acute and long term stewardship practices. That’s it.

My keynote address at the 10th Annual HBCU Climate Change Conference this morning in New Orleans provides a brief backstory of the 18 books I've written over the past four decades. It's actually 18 volumes of one book, but don't tell anybody. The books connect fairness, justice and equity as related to environment, climate, education, health, land use, planning, finance, development, housing, segregation, racism and redlining, infrastructure, transportation, disasters, sustainability, resilience, civil rights and human rights. Check out the book titles. Now you know!  @BullardCenter @EJHBCU @DSCEJ @HBCUBuzz #HBCUClimateChange #HBCUalum

Through the eons of human existence, trees had souls, mountains told stories, bees whispered secrets to us, the wind helped us make decisions. The world was literally filled with miracles. 500 years ago, a blip in time, a handful of people tried a brainwashing experiment:

In 2024, trusts & foundations are wasting their time on this burning planet while people die, consulting to come to the conclusion that the best, most reparative way to return resources to Black orgs & communities is through miniscule grants & leadership development programmes.

The fight for Palestinian liberation is also the fight for climate & ecological justice. Two vital lessons from the student protest movement against the genocide, which all of us who care about climate & global justice must heed urgently: 1/

Before the British arrived around the 1600s, Barbados was basically all forest... The deforestation that followed to make way for plantations completely changed the ecology of the island within something like 100 years. Colonialism, genocide & ecocide go hand in hand!

The Israeli military has relentlessly bombed farmland in Gaza and killed Palestinian farmers and agricultural workers. This is intentional. This is ecocide. This is creating conditions of long-term famine. 🧵

Disturbing evidence of rural racism, says Countryfile's John Craven. For Black and Muslim families going on a staycation, each trip has to be assessed for security as to the extent of race hate. You don't want to be the only Negroe in that village. telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/03…
