Happy authors celebrating online for now- soon in the sunshine. An amazing project, fieldwork and research team, including those incredible forced migrant women. Now hoping for change to redress governance & healthcare access barriers that reproduce so many gendered inequalities.

Food insecurity is a critical yet overlooked part of irregular migration. With @cintranat & Jose Miranda @SECOMISCA, we highlight the need for a regional response to secure basic rights and integration support for migrants—currently missing in policy. blogs.lse.ac.uk/internationa…
second part of my reaction today. While frustrating not surprised. Equally sad and worried about Trump’s pledge to revive and expand restrictive immigration policies from his first term
Our politics experts have been digesting Donald Trump's election victory.
Here's @PRiggirozzi on how the #Trump campaign has framed undocumented migrants as a threat to the nation.
ALT Head of Politics and Immigration at the University of Southampton Professor Pia Riggirozzi, a woman with long curly hair wearing a blouse and suit jacket alongside a quote reading: "Trump has pledged to revive and expand restrictive immigration policies from his first term.
"Vowing an unprecedented deportation campaign, he has threatened to deploy military and diplomatic resources to expel undocumented immigrants and has referred to migrants in dehumanizing terms, likening them to a threat to the nation’s moral well-being and safety.
"There has been an open rhetorical framing of undocumented immigrants as a moral and criminal threat, especially to ‘suburban women’ - which has appealed to some Latino and (white) women voters through a mix of fear-mongering and a narrative of security."
More reaction from our academics to the US election result, this time from politics expert, Dr @EmiliaBelknap.
She says the roadmap to Trump's current win can be traced back to beyond his victory in 2016. 👇
ALT Woman with dark hair and wearing a dark grey jacket and trousers sitting cross-legged and facing the camera. Dr Emilia Belknap says: "Trump’s victory is the culmination of the populous realignment found in 2016, with not only the white working class and evangelicals sticking by him but also adding young male voters and the Black and Hispanic working class. The Democratic advantage in the early vote was significantly reduced, with fewer Democrats voting by mail and more Republican voters attending early voting. As ever, the glass ceiling remains intact in the USA, and women’s reproductive rights remain at risk."
Trump won the popular vote because economic hardship- a reality. But, the election and his first speech as assumed President not only reinforces conservative views on key social issues, such as abortion and migration, but also drives a dangerous sense of what is urgent and needed
Our Head of Politics and International Relations @PRiggirozzi gives her thoughts on what Trump's election victory means for sexual and reproductive rights in the United States of America and around the world.
ALT Professor Pia Riggirozzi, Head of Politics and International Relations, a woman with long curly brown hair wearing a suit jacket and blouse, alongside a quote reading: "The outcome of this election will have far-reaching impacts on global health and reproductive rights, not only in the US but internationally.
"It will consolidate and legitimise a window of opportunity for conservative and right wing leaders across the world, directly aligning with the values of religious conservatives, who are increasingly influential in international health.
"We are likely to see further opposition to expanded reproductive freedoms and a de-funding and undermining of organisations that work with women on gender and sexual and reproductive rights, such as UNFPA and others."
