I hate to break it to you - but the United States is an absolute, incoherent shitshow.
The idea that we have ‘representative government’ is ridiculous. If that were true we would not have wasted billions killing Iranians for no reason at all. Some people wanted this - but the voters who elected this government did not.
Let’s go further. When Trump goes to China - he brings our ‘great billionaires’ with him. I can’t think of any more obvious symbol that we live in an oligarchy that does everything it can to manipulate outcomes - and that voting is a bit of a joke. It’s like he’s bringing with him ‘the ruling elite.’ Because that is what he did.
We have at least 40 million illegal aliens living here. Our business ‘leaders’ engineered this by bribing politicians to keep the border open - because they wanted to pay low wages and make mucho $$ for themselves. When people objected because their incomes were falling - the business leaders accused them of racism and funded Barack Obama to become POTUS.
The USA is $40 trillion in debt - and no one has a plan to solve that problem. Absolutely no one. This will blow up one day - and it will destroy normal people who save in dollars - because the unspoken plan is to destroy the currency and save the rich and destroy the rest. But people who own our homes - like Blackstone or Blackrock - won’t care because their assets will follow inflation. Everyone else will be reduced to paupers renting from them - their bank accounts gone.
The United States today is hopelessly dysfunctional. It lacks a coherent population that can even agree on anything. It is bankrupt - but the rest of the world is propping it up because they are also scared of what happens when the dollar collapses. It doesn’t have any smart leaders - and we have to watch insiders doing oil trades to make $$ on the Iran war - and the administration itself sells shit coins. Our foreign policy is a total joke - not strategic in any way at all. It is driven by special interests, and then not even followed through. And people are actuality making money on it - pump and dump coming straight from the White House.
This is a hell of a way to celebrate 250 Years! At least we can have a cage match on the White House lawn that degrades our entire history and underscores just how bad and ridiculous things are!

This is the first case of its kind in UK criminal justice history.
A Derbyshire officer allegedly used AI to fabricate evidential material across multiple cases not one. The Crown Prosecution Service is now reviewing every conviction those cases touched.
Three days ago, the UK government announced PoliceAI.
£140 million. a national AI centre for policing. 40 new facial recognition vans. AI tools for every force in England and Wales by 2027. the official goal: "get responsible AI into the hands of officers."
Three days later: criminal investigation into an officer for using AI to manufacture evidence.
the interim director of PoliceAI put out a statement today.
"our work is rooted in transparency."
97% of all criminal investigations in the UK now involve digital evidence. that's this year's figure.
AI is already being used to summarise case files, triage evidence, and assist with disclosure.
one officer already used it to manufacture evidence across multiple cases.
nobody noticed until now.

this is not a good sign.. the US government is making two mistakes here:
1. using "foreign national" as the criteria to gate the model is just not very smart. it's clearly not enforceable in practice and would obviously lead to a wide ban. and it's also pretty useless - there are plenty of americans more hostile towards the US than foreigners.. and it's also easy to bypass by people with real malicious intent
2. based on anthropic's post, the government clearly did not collaborate with anthropic to deeply understand the vulnerability before ordering the shutdown. this feels like a panic from people who simply don't understand what's going on
my prediction is the model access will recover early next week once the government get their sh*t together
i would not dunk on anthropic for this shutdown here. they worked hard on this release and it's a good model. they did a lot more on safety (i'd even say too much) than others. perhaps their "model is too dangerous" narrative is backfiring but still i think this shutdown is saying more about the government than anthropic

The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.
The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.
Access to all other Claude models is not affected.

THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED.
Thanks to the catastrophic energy policies pursued by the Tories and Labour, Britain has virtually ZERO sovereign AI capability.
Now we will be cut off from the most powerful AI models, and will soon end up being TOTALLY AT THE MERCY of China America and others who will be able bring to bear intelligence capable of defeating all our security systems in short order.
