Seventy-eight lives are safe today. But the conditions they were living in before are difficult to comprehend. When our Animal Law Enforcement team arrived at a home in Lancaster County yesterday, they were met with overwhelming heat, dangerously high ammonia levels, and rooms filled with waste, debris, and trash stacked from floor to ceiling. The air was harsh, but officers spent hours working through those physically demanding conditions to ensure every animal could be found and brought to safety. Hidden throughout the home were 78 Ragdoll cats and kittens. Some were frightened. Some were sick. All were living in conditions no animal should ever have to endure. With the assistance of the Lancaster Township Police Department, our team carefully removed every cat from the property. Today, they are receiving forensic examinations, medical care, nutritious food, clean bedding, and something many of them may not have experienced in a very long time - relief. They are not available for adoption at this time, but soon so many lives will have a chance at a brighter future in those forever, loving homes. This June, the Pennsylvania SPCA turns 159 years old. Since 1867, we have been showing up for animals in the hardest conditions, on the hardest days. If you'd like to help us continue that legacy, there's no better way than helping these 78 cats right now. Our Day of Giving is June 22, but these animals need care today. Please consider donating towards their care now.

"It's hard to believe she's still here." Those are the words Celeste's friends use when talking about her, and honestly, we couldn't agree more. Sometimes wonderful dogs get overlooked simply because they've been waiting a little longer. Celeste is one of them. This beautiful brindle Cane Corso mix has been waiting for six months for no apparent reason. The reality is that Celeste is an incredible dog. She's playful, affectionate, and loves spending time with her people. She's also open to meeting other dogs and children who are comfortable around a larger pup. The good news? This weekend could finally be Celeste's fresh start. As part of our Fresh Starts adoption event, running tomorrow through Sunday, her adoption fee will be waived, along with the fees for all of our adoptable dogs, thanks to @freshpet. We think it's time for Celeste's story to have the happy ending she deserves! - 🏠 The Pennsylvania SPCA 📍 350 E Erie Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19134 ⭐️ Kennel #3079

Spartacus' story is heartbreaking, but the reality is that he isn't the only dog we've helped in recent weeks who arrived at our doors fighting for his life. Just one month ago, another dog named Hercules needed that same second chance. This senior pug was brought to ACCT Philly by his owners, who were seeking euthanasia. When staff saw the condition he was in, they immediately contacted our Animal Law Enforcement team. Hercules was in devastating shape. He was completely emaciated and also scored a 5/5 on the TACC scale. Every bone was visible. He was so weak that he could barely stand, let alone walk. He was rushed to our shelter hospital, where our veterinary team immediately got to work. With needed medications, supportive care, and a carefully monitored refeeding plan, Hercules began the long road to recovery. Day by day, he grew stronger. Today, just one month later, Hercules is almost unrecognizable. The frail dog who once struggled to stand now bounces around like he has no idea he's a senior. He's gained weight, rebuilt his strength, and rediscovered the simple joy of being a dog. Now, Hercules is ready for the next chapter of his journey - finding a loving home. He is officially available and we hope he can find it today. Stories like Hercules' and Spartacus' are a reminder of why we do what we do. Every day, animals arrive in our care suffering from neglect, cruelty, and serious medical conditions. Their recoveries require time, expertise, patience, and resources. But watching a dog like Hercules go from barely surviving to truly living again reminds us that every effort is worth it. Always.

When we met Spartacus, our hearts broke. His condition was startling. Every bone in his body was visible. He had wounds where his bones had been rubbing against his skin. But, his resilience was also unmistakable. Learn more about Spartacus' journey and how we cannot save lives without him: x.com/PSPCA/status/206285726…
Spartacus is a survivor. The photos are difficult to look at. The reality was even harder. When dispatchers at ACCT Philly responded to a call about a dog in need of help, they discovered a heartbreaking scene.

Today, he is healthier and finally getting the chance to experience the life every dog deserves. His wounds have healed. He's gaining weight. His tail wags a little easier. And his sweet personality shines brighter every day.
