Today, we celebrate a significant win for the State of Rhode Island and the entire country. The ruling made by Rhode Island District Court Chief Judge John McConnell against discriminatory policies towards our immigrant and refugee neighbors is a reminder of what happens when communities stand up for each other. Each individual deserves a chance to seek opportunity, build a future for themselves and their families and find a place where they can belong. As your Mayor - we will do everything in our power to ensure that our immigrant and refugees neighbors feel safe, valued and supported.

Today, we celebrate an important milestone for Providence students as we break ground on the Robert F. Kennedy Pre-K through 8th grade school. This ground breaking marks more than just construction, it marks the beginning of a new chapter for our students, educators, families and neighborhood. Since taking office, education has been one of my administration's top priorities, we are not only committed to enhancing access to high-quality education inside but also outside of the classroom for all Providence students.

The solution to the housing crisis is to build more housing - that’s why I’m proud to celebrate the opening of The Flynn, in upper South Providence. Today’s ribbon cutting at the Flynn represents much more than just the competition of a project. It represents new opportunities for individuals and families to find stability, build a home and thrive in our City.

Today on National Higher Education Day, I'm grateful for my own experience as a college student attending DePaul University many years ago. College was a stepping stone that provided me with great opportunities and experiences and drives my passion in making sure that all Providence students are able to get the best education possible. Early childhood education has been one of my biggest priorities throughout my administration, not just because it's important for our children but because it's also deeply personal to me. Prioritizing early childhood education is one of the most meaningful ways that we can help lower the costs of living for families in our communities. Registration for children who are eligible to start Pre-K is open now until June 22nd. For more information, check out: providenceschools.org/school…
