There's a term for this: "activity-based identities."
Stans are people who have made a specific activity their identity.
So if you point out anything wrong with the activity--be it a Kpop group, an anime, a video game, etc.?
Stans will see it as an attack on their identity.
I don’t get why people feel that if you’re a fan of someone or something, that you have to defend everything that they do. I think spectrum of fandom has shifted so much because stans are so insane now that regular fans behave like how stans in the past would.
