Growing up in the shadow of the Cold War, the nuclear threat was never far from my thoughts. But as I got older, after Glasnost, the signing of the INF agreement, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the future seemed brighter. I started to forget about it.

But non-proliferation agreements are being flouted. Arsenals are increasing. Forget about the big, end all, tactical strike. Now, strategic strikes are in favour. Phrases like ‘usable’ nuclear missiles are uttered in NATO war games. A 10KT bombs might be used on a city near you!

The devastation will affect everyone on the planet. The damage will last for generations. Cancers, infertility, loss of livestock, farms will go bust, there will be contaminated water, thyroid problems, still born children...I hope this will never happen but it could.

Wolfgang Petersen is a huge inspiration for me. #DasBoot TV series in 1985 was the most gripping, claustrophobic and human war drama I’d ever seen. I watched it with my dad who had been in the Navy during WW2. I often rewatch it and marvel at the storytelling.

Late to this party but OMG this is brilliant. @connorratliff has created something so rich and unexpected from something so brutal. The forensic detail, the vulnerability, authenticity and humour are tone perfect. Such a great exploration of the film and Tv industry.

#Rememberings This book made me feel like a teenager again, it conjures up that time, way back then, so well. It also made me cry. Her casual references to all manner of abuse are like quiet bombs that explode inside you once you’ve read it.

I rewatched some of her early music videos after reading it. Nothing Compares 2U had me in pieces. Her tender voice in protest/love songs about people who mistreat her just kills me. The chapter about Prince was so awful I had to keep putting the book down and swear out loud!

She fought for her authenticity. Her vilification is reprehensible - she called out child and sexual abuse in the Catholic Church and music industry long before it was cool. I salute you @SineadOConnor Thank you for your voice and songs.
