Obesity rates are higher than ever, and more people are hitting the gym than ever. Ergo, exercise must cause obesity.
If therapy in general really works then why are depression and anxiety rates at historic highs while therapy is more popular than ever? Shouldn’t all this therapy be improving our mental health? It’s almost like therapy drives the problem instead of solving it.

Of course, I’m not making any claims here about the effectiveness of therapy. I’m just pointing out an obviously bad inference. As everyone loves to say, correlation doesn’t equal causation...

… Just as many factors can be driving the rise in obesity despite more people exercising (which clearly isn’t causing obesity), something similar could be going on with mental health and therapy.
