⚠ Pathfinder Project is moving ⚠ Due to recent events and the general quality of Twitter declining. Pathfinder Project is moving to a platform which has a similar name to the song Commander Data sang at Riker and Troi's wedding. Find us there as Pathfinder-project

If anyone is wondering what we look like here is a 100% accurate drawing by the amazing @foodcu_be, unfortunately @formerborgs and @BadSocialism can’t make it so we’ll have to wait till next year to do the photo proper!

For reasons we will go into, there was a distinctly different design philisophy when designing Starfleets Galaxy and Intrepid classes. The Galaxy was in many ways a showcase of Starfleets technological advancement and luxury offering.

Going back to Holodecks, the Galaxy class Holodeck was designed for use by Starfleet crew, visiting dignitaries and families. All the internal workings and sharp edges (got to child proof of when you have children around) were hidden behind a sleek exterior.

The Intrepid Holodeck was designed as a tool first and recreation area second, hence the more industrial approach. It was also designed for easier maintenance access and with the ships overall modularity in mind. In 21st century terms, they went with the IKEA approach.

It didn't matter that all the critiques: Reset button! Uneven character development! Missed potential! Contradictory decision making from characters! Defanging an enemy over repeat encounters! Changing the established canon! Also applied to their favourites. 5/11

Like @Wolf359Project did for a lot of 90s Trek content! I've rambled a bit, but the message here is that all fans are fans. Love what you love, but put what you don't like to the side and leave it there. You could pick it up later and find you love it. 10/11

But continuing to try and force that won't help and worse, could lead to you alienating not just new fans, but any fan who likes what you don't. Nothing new changes the episodes you love, you can have your own headcanon. Just don't force it on others. 11/11

I spent many evening as a teenager role playing on RPG-X with other Trek fans, instead of going out drinking and partying. I was that guy. I still hold fond memories of that time. But then I broke into the wider social media sphere around Voyager through Reddit, FB. Etc 3/11

Instead of finding people who like me loved to imagine life in the Trek world, and challenge themselves to explain the inconsistencies using their imagination I found many people and entire groups that just focused on tearing one thing down to lift another. 4/11

I will also comment on this from the Pathfinder account. Due to the relevance to the material and inspiration that I am writing here Voyager was my gateway to the Trek fandom. One of the biggest arguments between me and my parents as a kid was my Dad taping over the finale. 1/11
Ok, as someone who's entire project is based on a canon ship that came from STO, I feel compelled to say something here. I've got a bit to say here, so this is gonna be a long thread. (1/13)

I was the guy that turned up to a world book day at school when I was 7 in a hand knitted Voyager uniform jumper made by my grandma, clutching a copy of Echoes and claiming that going as Tom Paris counted because Voyager had books. I also spent my pocket money on Trek books 2/11
