wien.gv.at/english/leisure/h… I like this idea of a formalized, mostly unpaved hiking and biking network. Through use of public ROW, good signage and some maintenance, a city can create a trail network that is separated from cars.

It gives citizens more options for commuting and recreation, and presumably costs much less than a paved system. It could be one piece of a larger strategy for providing alternatives to the automobile. @Streets4Peeps what do you think about this idea?

Every state DOT or Transportation Cabinet should have landscape architects on staff. It’s cool to see that NY does and is hiring.

Here we are again almost exact same time of year, 1 yr later. There’s a solution…use the hydrants to flush the system in the problem areas. It’s gross, so why don’t we do anything? It literally smells like turning on a gas stove, not lighting it, and sticking your head in it.
Why has downtown Louisville smelled so bad for the last few weeks? It’s getting worse daily. Is it sewer off-gassing from hot, dry conditions? Is there a solution? Can we just open up the hydrants for a week and flush things out? We have an almost unlimited source of water.

We constantly say plastics aren’t recyclable, but in Germany they have a system & they do it successfully. Single-use plastics are shredded, made into pellets & turned back into bottles. Their $ deposit creates a system where 98% of glass & plastic bottles are recycled.

Loving this stack of books. 9th grade starts for the kiddo today and judging by this stack of required books/text, it’s going to be a pretty great educational experience.

Even though I’m fortunate to have significant tree canopy that keeps my house 10 degrees cooler in summer, it’s time to plant the next generation of trees for the next owner. Thanks @treeslouisville for the trees I picked up at the grand opening of @ParklandPlaza!

Bicycle infrastructure in Stockholm @ 1-3am in June. It’s like a freaking super highway for bikes. Would have loved to have seen it at rush hour. #shityoudoonlonglayovers

Come check out this incredible transformation on Saturday @ 2pm, folks! The plant beds have already filled in and it looks amazing! A great example of community organization, planning and action!
How it started —> How it’s going @parklandplaza edition! The Parkland Neighborhood laid out a vision for this underutilized space in their neighborhood plan and worked with community orgs to produce this public space. It’s now one of the largest de-paving projects in Louisville

Plant trees, people. The temperature in Louisville right now is 91 but my backyard is 81, thanks to 5 large trees. Our thermostat has been at 77-78 all summer so far, thanks to the trees. Also, while I’m on my soapbox, take @ridetarc some…it’s easy, cheap & the right choice.

The St Pauli Elbtunnel, built in 1911, is a pedestrian tunnel in Hamburg that goes under The Elbe River, taking you from on side to the other.

This is what you get to sit and watch (with a cold beer 😉) when you reach the other side of the tunnel.
If you’re lucky enough to get a 4-6 hour layover in Copenhagen, take the 15 minute train from the airport into the central station and go to Tivoli. We were here last in 2018 and it just doesn’t disappoint. Trains run every 5 minutes so it’s very doable.

Went to this park yesterday…Nature Park Schöneberger Südgelände…and I’m really hoping we look for this kind of thinking along Beargrass Creek.
So great to see progress being made on this important project. We truly enjoyed our work on the. @NewUrbanism legacy project exploring how to reconnect beargrass creek. 1mo72630r0z5bojhw3shc96x-wpe…
