I am truly sick of Anthropic's disingenuous sci-fi marketing. The good thing is that they are desperate and probably will not last.

This is desperate marketing for a failing venture, don't fall for it. Anthropic has been making embarrassing and absurd claims they could never defend among specialists to try and prop up their unprofitable business.
Today I'm publishing a new essay, Policy on the AI Exponential. AI is progressing extremely fast—much faster than the policy process was built to handle. The essay lays out where I think the technology is now, and the action needed to close the gap: darioamodei.com/post/policy-…

“Do not travel to Sudan. It’s too dangerous.” — UK Government “Why are we issuing visas to people from Sudan then?” — Shut up, racist!

Instantly recognizing the peculiar and persistent pain/itch in between the toes as a fire ant bite while the locusts hum is one of the most Texan experiences you can have.

When will the UK wake up?
May this footage be a radicalizing force for the British people. Christ have mercy.

Probabilistic models can only ever approximate full human reasoning.
My take: since 2023 startups have taken a limited, error-ridden technology - AI large language models - & fastened it onto a 60-year-old myth/dream in AI research: superintelligence. LLMs are the wrong tech for this, but these startups sold the myth & trapped investors.

Some don't get that $ not a final end but only valuable as a means. If you already have what you need to be happy, why sell? Many people do understand but insist they should take $ anyway and buy a new farm. They don't grasp the significance of the bond to that particular land.
A Kentucky family has declined a $26 million offer to sell their farmland for an AI data center. “If it’s my way, I’ll stay and hold and feed a nation. $26 million doesn’t mean anything.”

This ignores the very process by which the creeds were formed: the heresy came first, was recognized, then we get a council making it clear so others do not fall into the same error in the future.
The label “heretic” gets thrown around way too easily these days. If you profess the Nicene Creed & the Apostles’ Creed, you count as a legitimate Christian. Period. Christians will always disagree about important political & social issues and matters of doctrine. But at the end of the day, if someone affirms the essential truths outlined in the creeds, they are not heretics or apostates. 🎙️Holy Post 670 with @philvischer, @skyejethani & @kaitlynschiess

What's the term for this kind of insanity? Soft-on-crime doesn't quite get to it. Have progressive DAs and judges brought us to 'revolving door' criminals?
AUSTIN — Two passengers on a South Lamar bus were having a Bible discussion when vagrant Rogerio Martinez decided he'd heard enough. Martinez stood up with a kitchen knife and stabbed one man in the back mid-conversation, then kept going, while the victim threw up his bare hands trying to defend himself. A stranger -- a hero -- intervened and physically pinned Martinez to a seat. Martinez stabbed him in the leg anyway. Both victims were hospitalized. One critical. Before stepping on the bus, Martinez had four aggravated robbery charges, a family strangulation, and a felony assault reduced to a misdemeanor on his record across multiple counties. Last year he beat an HEB security guard in the forehead with her own flashlight hard enough to leave a golf ball-sized welt. He was back on the street, riding a bus. On Friday, two people paid for it with knife stabbings.

If a university offers degrees that qualify a candidate for a job like this on campus, they should be forced to straight up offer (not even interview) to the first recent grad who takes it before resorting to H1B. Otherwise college is scam.
The University of Pennsylvania (@Penn) has posted a notice of intent to hire an H-1B Data Analyst Salary: $79,584

A clever use of pious language to cloak highly contentious political accusations not easily defended if asserted straightforwardly like a man. This rhetoric is cowardly, manipulative, and deceitful and is an example of using the Lord's name in vain.
I approve this message.

What on earth were Australian servicemen doing on board an Iranian military craft?
🚨 Australia just confirmed three of its personnel were aboard the US submarine that torpedoed the Iranian warship off Sri Lanka. This just became an international incident in a new direction. Australia is now a co-combatant in an unauthorized war. No Australian parliamentary vote. No public debate. Three Australians helped sink a ship that had just marched in a goodwill naval parade.
