There’s something special about walking into a Scholastic Book Fair. The excitement of finding the perfect book never gets old. Visiting Nokiidaa Public School brought back memories of circling wish-list books. Some things haven’t changed and neither has the power of a good book.

Today, I am proud to announce that the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board’s newest elementary school will be named Brian Mulroney Elementary School, in honour of Canada’s 18th Prime Minister. Brian Mulroney was one of the most consequential leaders in modern Canadian history. He strengthened Canada’s economy, championed the French language and Francophone communities, led on the environment as the greenest Prime Minister, and earned international respect for his leadership on human rights and the fight against apartheid. I hope the students who walk through the doors of this new school will be inspired by his commitment to public service and nation-building.

Education must prepare students not just for graduation, but for life beyond school. Ontario is investing $4 million through new partnerships with the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Canada and the King’s Trust Canada to expand student access to experiential learning opportunities. When students have opportunities to put their learning into practice, they leave school better prepared, no matter the career path they choose.

Our government is taking action to reduce building costs and speed up the construction of new homes through the Development Charge Reduction Program: a new, shared program with the federal government that will deliver $8.8 billion in funding towards housing-enabling infrastructure projects for municipalities that cut development charges by 30% or more.   Along with the HST relief announced in Ontario’s 2026 budget, this program will help make homes across the province more affordable.   🔗: news.ontario.ca/en/release/1…
