Launched on Wednesday, the @ChildRightsIRL 'Child Poverty Monitor 2026' highlights that child poverty remains a significant issue in Ireland, despite some progress in recent years.
The report finds that 95,170 children (7.8%) were living in consistent poverty in 2025, meaning they live in households with low incomes and are unable to afford basic necessities.
This is equivalent to one in every 12 children. While the rate has fallen slightly from 8.5% in 2024, children continue to experience higher levels of poverty than any other age group.

Yesterday afternoon Pavee Point was delighted to be part of the visit of a Turkish Delegation, which included participation from the WHO to Tobacco Free Ireland Programme, to share some of our learnings on tobacco management in Ireland.
The service, which is a Traveller specific pilot initiative run in conjunction with the HSE Dublin and North East, provides outreach, health advocacy and signposting to support Travellers to quit smoking.
This morning in UCD, Mary Brigid Collins (Primary Health Care Co-ordinator at Pavee Point) presented to staff, lecturers and researchers in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems on cancer awareness among Travellers in Ireland.
That research highlighted Travellers' experiences of cancer & explored the various barriers for Travellers in accessing appropriate healthcare. The research identified local Traveller Primary Health Care Workers as key enablers for Travellers in accessing cancer screenings.
Pavee Point welcomes the Department of Health’s commitment to developing Ireland's first Roma Health Action Plan as part of the National Traveller and Roma Inclusion Strategy Action Plan.
These discussions emphasised the need for direct Roma representation on consultation and implementation structures, and the need for targets, timelines, identified resources and data to ensure the Plan's effective implementation.
Today (June 9) Pavee Point join the Roma Rights Network in a joint statement declaring the current situation for Roma rights in Europe as a state of crisis.
The attack on Roma rights is a precursor to the erosion of rights for all. The Roma Rights Network stands united in its commitment to defend the universality of human rights and the rule of law.
