Strengthening democracy through collaboration and peacebuilding ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ The Greater Accra Regional Peace Council (GARPC) held a stakeholder engagement with the Electoral Commission of Ghana at Ridge to deepen cooperation on electoral peace, conflict prevention, and institutional synergy in the delivery of democratic governance. The engagement focused on enhancing mutual understanding of institutional mandates, strengthening collaboration in election-related peace interventions, and promoting coordinated efforts in preventing and managing electoral disputes across the region and beyond. Mr. George Oko Mensah, Acting Regional Executive Secretary of GARPC, emphasized the Councilโ€™s mandate in conflict prevention, management, and sustainable peacebuilding, noting the importance of collaboration with the Electoral Commission in safeguarding peaceful elections. Promoting peace, tolerance, and inclusivity among young learners ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ๐Ÿ“š The Greater Accra Regional @PeaceCouncilGH (GARPC), in collaboration with Calvary Methodist (1) Basic School and CHRAJ-GAR, engaged students on peace education and sensitization to promote positive behaviour, respect, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence. Students were educated on the effects of violence, the importance of dialogue in resolving conflicts, and the need to embrace diversity, kindness, empathy, and mutual respect within the school environment. The engagement also highlighted the mandate of the National Peace Council and its role in promoting sustainable peace in Ghana. Strengthening partnerships for peace and security ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ The Greater Accra Regional @PeaceCouncilGH (GARPC) paid a working visit to the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCSALW) at the Office of the President Annex, Ridge, to deepen collaboration and strengthen institutional partnerships in advancing peace, security, and national development. The engagement provided an opportunity for both institutions to discuss areas of mutual interest, including peace education, public sensitization, conflict prevention, arms control, and strategies for promoting safer communities. Speaking during the meeting, Mr. George Oko Mensah, Acting Regional Executive Secretary of GARPC, highlighted the Councilโ€™s efforts in promoting peace through education and awareness campaigns in schools, communities, religious institutions, and constituencies. Empowering students to choose peace over violence ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ The Central Regional @PeaceCouncilGH (CRPC) engaged approximately 1,000 students of University Practice Senior High School, University of Cape Coast, on the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act, 2019 (Act 999) and the consequences of student violence. The sensitization programme enhanced studentsโ€™ understanding of vigilantism, unlawful conduct, and the legal, social, and academic consequences of violence. Participants were encouraged to embrace peaceful conflict resolution, responsible citizenship, and positive decision-making as essential tools for maintaining peace within their schools and communities. Speaking at the event, Dr. Charles Ohene Amoh emphasized that peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the ability to manage differences through dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect. Building resilience for peace in Ghanaโ€™s border communities ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ The Savannah Regional @PeaceCouncilGH, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (@UNDPGhana), with co-funding from the Embassies of Denmark, Luxembourg, and South Korea, successfully implemented a 2-day community dialogue on violent extremism and conflict prevention across Garimayiri, Kukuteen, and Jinavouri in the Savannah Region.
