Every day, innocent lives are lost, families are displaced, and communities live in fear due to insecurity. Security is not a privilege; it is a basic right of every citizen. We need stronger action, accountability, and lasting solutions to protect lives and restore peace across the country. O Allah, make our land Nigeria a place of peace, safety, and security. Protect its people, guide our leaders, and grant us lasting stability. Ameen. 🤲 #Security #Nigeria #Peacebuilding

Empowering women to become champions of peace, security, and community resilience. Action Life Kenya, through our Wanawake Imara Champions, convened a Community Dialogue in Kibaoni bringing together women leaders for meaningful discussions on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE), Early Warning and Early Response Mechanisms, information sharing, and addressing the growing challenge of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) affecting our communities. The dialogue provided a safe platform for women to share experiences, strengthen networks, and explore collective solutions that promote peaceful coexistence, timely response to emerging threats, and the protection of vulnerable groups. When women are empowered with knowledge, skills, and a voice in decision-making, communities become safer, stronger, and more resilient. This program is implemented by @SFCG_Kenya in partnership with @actionlife_Ke , with support from @CanHCKenya #WanawakeImara #PCVE #WomenForPeace #CommunityResilience #EarlyWarningEarlyResponse #EndGBV #actionlifekenya #SearchForCommonGround #peacebuilding #SafeCommunities

The Welcome Remarks were delivered by Amb. N. J. Gangte, Acting Deputy Director General, ICWA. The panel underscored the inseparability of peacekeeping and peacebuilding in addressing the increasingly complex and multidimensional nature of contemporary conflicts. It called for a shift from conflict management to conflict resolution, emphasizing sustainable peace. In this context, India has emerged as a key contributor to #UN peacekeeping operations and is increasingly supporting peacebuilding efforts through its broader development #partnerships in human resource development, #infrastructure, and #security capacity-building. The discussion also highlighted the financial constraints facing the United Nations, which limit its ability to sustain long-term peacebuilding engagements.

Honoured to join @ICWA_NewDelhi panel under the stellar chairmanship of Amb @ruchirakamboj alongside insightful co-panellists Maj Gen AK @akbardalai and Dr. Shweta Singh of @SouthAsianUni I discussed how India is the world's premier blueprint for pluralistic nation-building—the ultimate model for transitioning from peacekeeping to sustainable peacebuilding. Left by the British in 1947 in an absolute abyss far worse than today's fragile nations, with life expectancy under 32, literacy at 12%, and severe food insecurity, we painstakingly built our own robust rule of law, constitutional institutions, and heavy industries from scratch. We vanquished famine to achieve total food security, established robust healthcare systems, and engineered an economic rise from absolute devastation to one of the world's top five economies. What the Brahimi Report recognized globally in 2000 regarding the necessity of institutional pillars for peace, India understood and successfully executed all the way back in 1950. It is a strategic absurdity to compare India's civilizational trajectory with tiny countries size of one of our districts or neighboring states like Pakistan and Bangladesh. Even while navigating severe internal security threats and external conflicts, our apolitical Armed Forces and democratic frameworks safeguarded the nation without compromising civil liberties. Unlike authoritarian models that historically relied on brutal internal purges like the Cultural Revolution to enforce order, India’s peacebuilding philosophy is rooted in this domestic democratic resilience and unparalleled institutional depth. With our re-election to the UN Peacebuilding Commission, India stands as a global norm-setter. The world has immense lessons to learn from our civilizational experience in managing vast diversity through consensus, institutional strength, and organic development, rather than coercion. On a personal note, a very proud moment seeing my former @IDSAIndia colleague @GirisankerNair flawlessly coordinate this high-level dialogue at ICWA. Exceptional work Keep leading the charge. Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, on Saturday marked his 84th birthday with the launch of three books chronicling his life, leadership journey and contributions to peacebuilding across Africa. The event, held at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja, attracted a host of prominent political and military figures, including former Heads of State General Yakubu Gowon and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, while Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Bola Tinubu. Among the books unveiled was A Call of Duty: My Autobiography, which recounts Abdulsalami’s life, military career and his role in overseeing Nigeria’s transition from military to civilian rule in 1999. The other publications were Mediating for Peace in Africa: A Festschrift in Honor of General Abdulsalami A. Abubakar and Nigeria’s Grand Patriot: Abdulsalami Alhaji Abubakar, GCFR, both highlighting his contributions to national unity and conflict resolution across the continent. A major highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Abdulsalami Abubakar African Resource Center (AAARC), a research institution dedicated to preserving African history, leadership studies and national cohesion. The ceremony also featured reflections on key moments in Nigeria’s political history, with Abdulsalami and other speakers sharing personal accounts from critical periods, including the country’s return to democratic rule following the death of General Sani Abacha. #nigerianews #nigeriannews #nigerianpolitics
