In this report, plastic debris items were ranked based upon their quantified impact to marine 🐬species. Bags were rated as one of the top items with greatest ingestion risk for seabirds, turtles🐢 and marine mammals, and as one of the biggest entanglement threats to marine fauna. Tip: Fill reusable containers with bulk items like rice, coffee, or nuts at your local grocery🍎 store. In a 2015 study co-authored by @OurOcean, cutlery was rated as one of the top two items with the greatest ingestion risk for seabirds, turtles🐢, and marine mammals. Tip: When ordering food🥡 for delivery, skip the plastic utensils or chopsticks and use what you have at home. Grabbing food on the go or traveling? Solution: Ocean Conservancy🌊 is one of 130 members working alongside 20 national governments to support The Global Ghost Gear Initiative, the world's only alliance dedicated to tackling the issue of abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded fishing gear on a global scale.
