He leaned into her shoulder with a smile.
“I wouldn’t want anyone else either.”
He stared at her for a while, looking over her features.
“ I’d like to think that’s a pretty good thing… “
[ She laughs softly, shuffling closer to press her shoulder against his. ]
“ I wouldn’t want to be stuck here with anyone else. “

He looked at her hand, then up to her face. He smiled softly and a little sadly.
“It is, yeah. And I guess some good things came out of it, like meeting you.”
[ She turns her head to look at him before sitting up and placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. ]
“ Don’t regret it, please… it’s part of who you are. “

“I regret it, sometimes. I wasted years and time on something I only barely got to use before being thrown out of the field. And then I end up here, on a suicide mission I didn’t even sign up for.”
He let the music fill the silence the fell between them.
“ College is all about memories at this point. “
[ She laughs, turning her gaze up to look at him curiously. ]
“ Doctorate… wow. That’s still so impressive. “

“ The University of Vermont, nothing special really. “
[ Keegan sighs, staring at the ceiling with a little sigh. ]

He thought for a moment, trying to pick a different subject.
“Um, what school did you go to?”
“ Exactly… “
[ Keegan sighs, shaking her head a little in an attempt to get away from the sad subject of the people she’s lost. She leans back, lying on the metal. ]
“ Anyways… talking about something else would be nice. “

He smiled.
“Yeah, it is always there. It never gets easier. It never lessens. Just haunts you forever.
He sighed, leaning his head on his knee.
“ Don’t let Kevin hear about that… “
[ She laughed softly, ducking her head with a little nod. ]
“ His death was hard but… it’s okay, it’s been years. I’ve had time to grieve even if it feels like it’s not enough. It doesn’t go away, you just learn to make room for it. “

“What else do you remember about him? What kind of shows or movies did he like? Hobbies and such?”

“ He’s not around anymore. I just have my sister and my dad. “

He watches her with a soft smile.
“It’s good you have happy memories like that. Hold onto them.”
“ My brother. “
[ She hums quietly, brows furrowing slightly. ]
“ I just remembered that… that he liked this stuff. I didn’t even have to try it was just… there. “

He looked back, smiling a little.
“Kevin? Who’s that? If you want to tell me, of course.”
He went over and sat by her, one knee up. His fingers on his non-injured hand tapped on it along to the beat.
[ She sits, her eyes lifting to follow him as he paces to the computer. The music starts and she lights up a little, something fond on her features. ]
“ This is great… Kevin liked this kind of music. “

He followed her up the ladder and to the screen room. Once they got there, Ryland moved to the console.
“How about this? I used to listen to it all the time.”
He put on some rock from the late nineties and early 2000s.
“ Exactly. It’s just not really my style. “
[ Keegan hums, soft, nodding her head once as she listens to him talk. ]
“ That makes sense… let’s head there! “
[ Going to the ladder. ]

“Agreed. I never understood country music, guess you have to know the life to fully enjoy it.”
He smiled and followed her.
“Mental health node? That’s what I heard it called when I first went in there. I guess they put it in so we didn’t go completely crazy.”
“ Anything but country for me. “
[ Keegan laughs, shaking her head as she heads over to the ladder. ]
“ Let’s head to the… screen room. “

“I can listen to almost anything.”

[ She offers with a little smile, something knowing and sweet. ]
“ We’ve got that, don’t we? “

“So, what do we do now? We’ve still got, like, 10 days left until Tau Ceti E. We also have every piece of media known to man. So let that help you decide.”
He laughed a little.
“ It’s so when the pain is moderate, you aren’t taking medication for something you don’t need. “

He takes the medicine, but looks back to Keegan with furrowed brows.
“Right, I get that. But why do I have to stop taking them? I’m sure this headache will keep coming back.”
“ It’s just better to take smaller doses than quit all at once, don’t worry. It’s nothing that’ll harm you in the long run. “
[ She calls to Armando who makes its way down to give Grace his medication. ]
“ There you go. “
