one of the nastiest little men I’ve ever seen in politics. A truly pathetic and toxic campaign. He got absolutely crushed as he deserved to.
After taking time to respect the process and ensure as many votes were counted as possible, today I called Jackie Fielder to congratulate her on winning the race for D9 Supervisor.
I am so incredibly proud of the race we ran and I am forever grateful to my campaign team, especially my Campaign Manager JD Casaletto and the team at MerrillStrategies. More than anyone, I am grateful to my husband Adrian who for 18 months shared me with D9 voters, put up with the long hours of campaigning, and without whom none of this would have been possible.
I chose to run for District 9 Supervisor not because it was easy, in fact almost everyone told me not to run because of what a steep and bumpy climb it would be. I ran because San Francisco is worth fighting for. Too many in D9 feel ignored by an entrenched establishment more interested in ideological purity than improving the quality of life for our residents. While unsuccessful, our campaign was able to give voice to those who simply want City Hall to work for them and be serious about their safety, housing, schools, and small businesses.
And it’s clear our message resonated enough to make our opponent acknowledge the need for more housing and safety despite having a long history of extreme positions on both. It is incumbent upon all of us to hold her accountable to address these issues with the seriousness they deserve.
As for what’s next, I’m not going anywhere. I remain honored to be an elected leader of the San Francisco Democratic Party and to be at the forefront of making the change necessary for the future of our city, state, and country. Now more than ever we need voices communicating Democratic Party values in a way that resonates with all San Franciscans, Californians, and Americans, not just the ideological fringes. We need to stand strong with every community under attack by the incoming Trump administration and prove to the entire country right here in San Francisco that Democratic leadership can bring good governance, economic vitality, outstanding public schools, and safe and clean streets.
Deciding to run for this office will always be one of the best decisions I have ever made. The friendships made, voices amplified, and coalitions built will continue and I look forward to being a part of the work with you all.
