Not Deep Third, note...
"One of these days they'll find me dead among the dandelions, the red smudge of a cricket ball gracing my head." from Deep Third Man by Neil Rollinson in Catching The Light, the brilliant new @FairfieldBooks_ anthology Reviewed in our latest episode

Great picture. All-run four maybe?
On This Day in 1990 both openers, Kim Barnett and Peter Bowler scored hundreds for @DerbyshireCCC against Warwickshire. There have only been 17 such instances for the county, Barnett featuring in four of them... @ACScricket

So much cricket is played in coloured kit these days, whether it’s franchise cricket, international white ball cricket and even a lot of league cricket. So there’s a lovely symmetry to the fact that Test cricket (the most elite form of the game) and Sunday afternoon village cricket (the most rustic) are still both played in whites with a red ball.

A pioneer of the reverse sweep, Harry Creber was a Glamorgan great before they entered the County Championship but he did play in their first two first-class season even though he was almost 50 by then. A left-arm seamer, he had no pretensions as a batsman and at times batted both left and right handed, sometimes changing mid innings as this account relates

What chance have @URCOfficial clubs like, for example @scarlets_rugby, got to build up habit-forming crowds and match day revenue with only four competitive home games left until 2027?

Most County Championship wickets, 1990–1999 🏏 The 90s had a brilliant mix of county grinders, England names and world-class overseas firepower. Steve Watkin leads the decade with 594 wickets for Glamorgan - a huge return from a relentlessly consistent seamer who also played Test cricket for England and was central to Glamorgan’s strong 90s side. Martin Bicknell was pure Surrey class: 549 wickets at 23.64, combining accuracy, seam movement and durability. One of those bowlers county batters must have hated facing week after week. Then there’s Phil Tufnell, taking 521 wickets with his left-arm spin, while Courtney Walsh is the outrageous one: 504 wickets at 19.24 from only 96 matches, with 37 five-wicket hauls. Genuine West Indies greatness dropped into the County Championship. Andy Caddick also stands out - 486 wickets, 34 five-wicket hauls, and a strike rate of 45.83. A proper 90s list: seamers everywhere, elite overseas quality, and Tufnell spinning his way into the top three. #CountyCricket #Cricket #CountyChampionship Stats by redballcricketstats.com/
