What is one thing you wish Kenyan employers understood about job seekers? I will go first: That a gap in someone's CV is not laziness, it is often caregiving, illness, starting something, or surviving something. Context matters more than continuity. I have seen incredible professionals overlooked because of 6-month gaps that would make complete sense if any hiring manager had just asked. Your turn. Drop your answer below .

I have screened over 50,000 CVs from Kenyan professionals. Here is what almost all of them get wrong: They describe their responsibilities not their results. "Responsible for managing accounts" tells me nothing. "Managed 47 accounts worth KES 380M, reducing churn by 22% in 6 months" gets you shortlisted. The difference is not your experience. It is how you frame it. Here are the 4 CV mistakes that are quietly killing your job applications: 1. Listing duties instead of achievements (most common) 2. One generic CV sent to every employer 3. A summary section that says nothing original 4. Burying your biggest win on page 2 Which of these are you guilty of? Be honest in the comments

As a new manager, my biggest regret is how I handled underperforming employees. I gave them the benefit of the doubt for too long and my team suffered as a result. Here are 3 tests I now use to act more decisively:

Manager: Work from home isn’t allowed here. Employee: Understood. Manager: I messaged you around 8:30 last night. Why didn’t you reply? Employee: Because work from home isn’t allowed here. Manager: What does that mean? Employee: It means once I’m off work… I’m off work. Manager : Consider 3 days salary deduction Employee : Consider this start of my 3 weeks notice Manager : ↓

Don’t wait for the interviewer to prompt you for information. When they ask questions, give them as much relevant information as you can appropriate to what the question is. It speaks positively about you and can be the differentiating factor between you and the other person.

One of the biggest frustrations employers have today? Too many applicants. Too little employability. Organizations are receiving hundreds of CVs… yet still struggling to find the right people. Because the workplace has changed. Employers are no longer just hiring qualifications or years of experience. They are hiring: - Accountability - Adaptability - Communication - Ownership - Problem-solving ability - Emotional intelligence - Reliability And unfortunately, many professionals are still using outdated approaches in a changing job market.

In a job interview, when they ask: “Why are you leaving your current job?” This is a trap. One wrong word and you go from front-runner to “we will be in touch.” Here is how to answer it safely:

If your networking message asks for a job, referral, or 30-minute call before there is any relationship, do not be shocked when people ignore it. Start a conversation first.

Many professionals are struggling quietly. Overwhelmed. Burnt out. Emotionally exhausted. But still showing up and pretending everything is okay. One of the biggest shocks professionals are facing in 2026 is this: You can be qualified… experienced… and still remain unemployed. Not because you lack potential. But because the job market has changed. Employers are no longer hiring based on qualifications alone. They are evaluating: - Communication - Confidence - Problem-solving ability - Adaptability - Ownership - Personal branding - And overall fit Meanwhile, many candidates are still relying only on degrees, years of experience, and generic CVs. That’s why some highly qualified professionals keep getting rejected… while others move ahead faster. We need to talk honestly about this. FREE ONLINE EVENT Why Qualified Candidates Still Miss Jobs in 2026 — And What Employers Are Really Looking For 🗓 28th May 2026 ⏰ 7PM –9PM 📍 Zoom A practical and eye-opening session on what employers are truly looking for in today’s market—and why many qualified candidates are still being overlooked. Register here: us02web.zoom.us/meeting/regi… Because qualifications alone are no longer enough.
