Last week, we celebrated World Environment Day with activities across our four sites in Africa.
In Ghana, our Edikan team marked the occasion with a week of learning and action in local host communities, extending the theme of “Climate Action” from classrooms to the mine site.
Inter-school environmental quiz competitions strengthened students’ knowledge on environmental sustainability, climate change, biodiversity conservation, sanitation, and responsible resource management. Winners from each zone advanced to a grand finale held on June 5 at Dunkwa Radio Visa, where Nkotumso Roman Catholic School emerged overall champion.
Our Nyanzaga team in Tanzania held community-led environmental awareness sessions, tree planting and waste‑collection activities in Nyabila, along with a programme at Sotta East Primary School that included tree planting, awareness education, and the handover of watering cans, buckets, and waste bins supported by students, teachers, local leaders, district representatives and project staff.
At Yaouré and Sissingué in Côte d’Ivoire, teams marked the day with tree planting activities in local communities, bringing together community leaders, school representatives and project staff.🌱
