The First World War profoundly affected families & communities in Perth & Kinross. Many soldiers collected souvenirs, often gifting them to loved ones. This French Army M2 Gas Mask from 1918 was a souvenir from Bouillon, Belgium, collected by Lieutenant DT Thomson. #PerthMuseum

๐Ÿ“ธ Child's shoe, 1760-1830. Many families and communities were displaced by landowners during the Highland Clearances in Perthshire. This shoe was excavated from the remains of a cleared home beside Loch Tummel on the Atholl estate. 1/2

The Duke of Atholl had begun clearing tenants & converting the land for sheep-grazing from 1784. Large numbers of people were forced to emigrate, while others went to work in factories such as Stanley Mills, of which the Duke was a major investor. 2/2
