In Finland, #forest #ecohydrology field work starts in late winter, as this is when #snowmelt water starts to flow into the soil, where some of it will be used by roots and🌲trees later on in the growing season.

Much snow pit digging & more in #Pallas #Finland last week with the #nordicsnownetwork. Heavy rains made #snow work tricky but that's #arctic fieldwork! Saharan dust was searched, snow melt investigated, SIMBA checking lake ice. Great team!
