I vote in person on Election Day. I encourage all UAF voters to do the same. Notably, if you close the primaries, this nonsense goes away. This is an issue created by the complexity of opening the primaries. According to the law, the counties have to record which election UAF voters participate in. The two primaries are different elections. So there is an additional step for ballot processors to record which ballot is returned by UAF voters — that is, which election they are participating in. This additional step is required by law — it was part prop 108 in 2016 which opened the primaries. C.R.S. § 1-7-201(2.3) — requires that unaffiliated voters be provided access to major-party primary ballots and establishes the framework for their participation. C.R.S. § 1-7.5-107(3.5) — for mail-ballot elections, requires procedures ensuring that an unaffiliated voter returns only one party’s ballot.
