don’t trust wines with trendy brand names. the label should tell you the vineyard, the grape variety, and the year, and that’s about it. if they have spent a bunch of money on branding and some zippy name, they’ve spent less on the actual contents of the bottle.
something that bothers me about my work is that i am not very good at hiding my current state of mind in the timbre of my voice. if you know what to listen for, you can tell if i made a recording while i was especially stressed. i carry the tension in my tone.
here's another hot mic tip that I can't be bothered to write up into a full thread: you probably don't actually need a pop filter, you just need better mic technique
If you're a non-binary voice actor, let me see your demo reel! 👀
I'm looking for some VAs for a project I'm working on SPECIFICALLY for non-binary characters!
i love seeing design decisions that make you think “oh yeah, obviously that’s the way that should be done”. typefaces, especially. when you see some text and it makes you think “obviously thats the font to use there, anything else would be sheer hubris”. mm mm mmmm delicious
a bad designer doesn’t think about type. a mediocre designer spends hours choosing the right typeface. a good designer immediately knows which one to use without question.
Hey you, voice actor/voiceover artist! Stop buying these tiles and scattering them randomly on your walls, it doesn't do anything! Even if you absolutely cover your walls in them, they aren't going to have the effect you think they'll have. Read on to learn why! 👇
i’ve been auditioning for a lot of stuff under my real name lately. thought it was time to take voice acting outside of audio RP more seriously. it’s been fun, but it makes me a little sad - i won’t be able to share the details of any of those projects here, as phasmid.
I don't know how to make friends. I think this is partly because of diagnosed ADHD and undiagnosed autism, but it's really frustrating. In most every social situation I find myself in - and such situations are few and far between - I feel like an unapproachable alien. How do people do it?

It will be a little more time consuming and expensive, but save up your money and put the effort in to the DIY and you will be rewarded. I built a completely DIY vocal booth with some timber and some Rockwool RWA45. Total material cost was about £750, and my recordings sound incredible.
In the future, I might write up some kind of tutorial for building a booth just like mine, but only once I've built a V2 - there are plenty of things that I want to improve.
