I’m going to make a longer post about this, but I really don’t understand the Oso hate from a large portion of Suns fans.
To start this was Oso’s 2nd season in the league. Plus a coaching change that saw changes in offensive/defensive identity & responsibilities.
Addressing some of the discourse I have seen that many comments are saying he can’t shoot & can’t block shots.
Unfortunately having to state the obvious here, but you don’t NEED to make 3s in order to be an effective offensive player. Yes the Free Throw % was bad and certainly something Oso will work to develop, but to use that as a means to attempt to categorize his offensive impact is irresponsible. The Suns best offensive lineups all involve Oso.
Oso’s ORTG On/Off was a 4.1 (89 percentile). The Suns best offensive 2 Man lineups both include Oso. If you look at the Suns best offensive 3 Man lineups that involve Devin Booker there is only 1 other player that also appears in those 3 lineups. I’m pretty sure you can guess who it is. Lastly, the 2 best offensive 4 man lineups also include Oso. Individually you can see in the picture below all of the offensive metrics that Oso improved in year-to-year, I’m not going to list them all, but it’s basically all of them.
Moving on to defense “he can’t block shots” is lazy writing. Trying not to get too analytical here, but per databallr Oso posted a 1.9 DDPM (98th percentile). He also posted the 3rd best Def On/Off among Suns players that played significant minutes. And similar to his offensive metrics his defensive impact took a significant jump from year 1 as well.
Oso’s defensive versatility his ability to screen, play-make, and be initiator on offense in Jordan Otts system is what makes him so valuable for the Suns moving forward.
And yes, there is certainly a lot of development in Oso’s game to be had, but for fans to be frustrated like this after year 2 is mind boggling.
The Suns recently fully guaranteed Oso Ighodaro's contract for next season, per
@BobbyMarks42.
Ighodaro was the only Sun to appear in all 82 games in 2025-26, averaging 6.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
