What kind of future are we leaving for little Pedro, Vivek and Abshir if we don't balance the budget?

Tokyo is >95% Japanese. The Irish aren't worried about Dublin becoming a megacity that is >95% Irish. They're worried about becoming a minority in their own homeland.
The blue area represents Tokyo. 37 million people live there. 5.4 million people live in Ireland. Refugees Welcome - We are not full.

Seville disease - destroying productive capacity by exporting the currency, and confusing the resulting temporary revenue/consumption capacity for actual wealth, which in the long run is a function of production, is one of the major problems of 21st century America.
Replying to @arctotherium42
The Spanish economy collapsed in the 16th and early 17th century due to massive royal expenditure and inflation from American bullion; the Crown had the highest revenues in Europe but was perpetually bankrupt owing to the decline of the productive Spanish economy.

Rand Paul says stupid shit like this, and you have to wonder what he means. This seemingly means cutting spending by 30% gradually over 5 years, which amounts to 7% of GDP. That would mean cutting all discretionary spending; i.e. all military spending, highways, parks, etc.
Washington needs to rein in its reckless spending and address the debt crisis. My Six Penny Plan would achieve that goal. We would cut 6 cents from every $1 the federal government spends. In 5 years, the budget would be balanced. justthenews.com/government/f…

We might wish that gov debt spending weren't a part of GDP, but it certainly does support millions of jobs. How does Rand Paul suggest dealing with that? What is the mechanism where this doesn't cause immense hardship for Americans? Or a feedback loop of economic contraction?

Balancing the budget without fixing the underlying structural economic issues that create the perennial budget deficit is retarded, and tells me that someone has zero understanding of macroeconomics. This isn't a household budget. Every expenditure is someone else's income.

Reopening the Strait of Hormuz was paramount because the US economy relies on debt-spending facilitated by the petrodollar. Incidentally, the petrodollar was crafted in the wake of the 1973 oil embargo to buy off Israel's enemies, and has been exploited to undercut US industry.
"There is no person on earth who is going to say that America didn't lose this war! There is nobody—NOBODY!" Ultra-Zionist John Podhoretz has a meltdown over Trump's Iran deal.

One might say the Israel-firster merchant class, which tends to also be devoted to free trade and financialization, is finding itself hoisted by their own petard.

According to John Podhoretz, American soldiers “volunteered” to risk their lives, so they might as well die fighting Iran on behalf of Israel.
John Podhoretz LOSES IT over Trump botching the Iran War: "I honestly don't know if this could be worse!" "[TRUMP] HAS CHOKED! HE HAS CHICKENED OUT!" "I'm out of my mind here!" The Israel Lobby has buyer's remorse on Trump. 🥶

I'm not optimistic that the USA-Iran MOU will last very long given Israeli intransigence.

If “international law” were real, Israel would receive the same treatment that Serbia received.

I am sure that Israel does not want Iran to have nuclear weapons, but Israel's refusal to accept anything less than Iran's total destruction makes clear that the nuclear issue is merely a pretext for total war. Israel doesn't accept Iran having any military capacity whatsoever.

"Mark Krikorian, executive director of the conservative Center for Immigration Studies, thinks Trump has the philosophy of “legal good, illegal bad,” which conflicts with some Republicans who want to limit legal all immigration. “He isn’t where the next generation of Republican policymakers are, like JD, like Sen. Schmitt, like Brandon Gill in the House, who are actual restrictionists, and acknowledge that numbers themselves are too high. It’s not just a problem of illegal immigration,” he said.
‼️The MAGA movement is demanding that the Trump admin end a visa program that incentivizes employers to hire foreign students. "It makes you mad," @SenRickScott told @DailySignal. "We all pay our taxes, and then we create incentives for our companies in our country to hire foreign workers." Noem said she was reevaluating the Optional Practical Training program, but Sec. Mullin has not updated DHS' stance on OPT. "OPT is the gateway drug of our scam ‘legal’ immigration system—it allows corporations to hire an unlimited number foreigners rather than American citizens," Steve Bannon said. Employers receive a tax break for hiring foreign graduates under OPT, which some say gives foreigners an advantage over Americans. dailysignal.com/2026/06/14/m…

If the deal with Iran does include promising a cessation of hostilities in Lebanon, and Iran views actions by Israel as violating the deal, I am curious how this is supposed to work out.

This constant humiliation of America cannot go on. Donald Trump is duty bound to immediately withdraw all US financial, military, and diplomatic support from Israel. They are a rogue country who must bear the consequences of their actions alone. ENOUGH.
BIG: Netanyahu told Trump that Israel does not consider itself bound by the Lebanon-related part of the proposed U.S.–Iran agreement. According to Israeli sources, Israel plans to keep troops in Lebanon, continue operations against Hezbollah, and respond to attacks as needed. Source: Maariv
