My nickname with LPs is "The Professor".
It's taken root over the years because at most annual meetings, I do a thought piece on how we think. The premise is that most of the meeting is about what we have done or are doing, but the invisible hand that drives all that we do is how we think.
Performance is driven by what we do. What we do is driven by our strategy. Our strategy is driven by how we think. And how we think is driven by our worldview (how we think the world works). So, usually my thought piece is centered on how we think and what our worldview is when it come to investing.
If you have the wrong worldview, it's hard to have the right strategy actions performance because the foundation will be off. Hence, our view is it's perhaps more important for our LPs to know how we think and how we think the world works, than any specific thing that we've done, because how we think will impact what we do and our performance over the long run more than anything else.
We had our Volition annual meeting last week. This is when our investors (LPs = limited partners) come together every year to get an update from us on strategy, portfolio, etc. It went great. A nickname for me has stuck with my LPs. Want to guess what that nickname Is and why?
