Europeā€™s first field trial of gene-edited vines began in northern Italy on 30 September 2024. These Chardonnay vines have undergone gene inactivation to enable them to better defend themselves against downy mildew, a major fungal disease. nature.com/articles/s41587-0ā€¦

Two years ago I painted Ramularia leaf spot on sugar beet, caused by the fungus Ramularia beticola. hgpenningtonart.co.uk/plantsā€¦
The painting shows a single sugar beet leaf covered in round light grey-brown lesions. Each lesion has a dark brown ring at its outer border, and is surrounded by a pale yellow, chlorotic halo. In some areas the lesions have coalesced, but their darker margins can still be seen.
