Back to one of my favorite places, Hawthorn Hollow Nature Sanctuary. Penstemon digitalis was in full bloom among other species. And I saw a round-necked longhorn beetle for the first time.
I can't believe it! I finally found a mantidfly in my native plant garden! Half praying mantis, half wasp - but it's not actually a wasp and can't sting. They're completely harmless. I never thought I'd ever actually see one.
I visited the Smolenski park prairie restoration this morning. Aside from seeing loads of invasive oxeye daisy, it was a nice time. Spiderwort and penstemon were in bloom!
Echinacea paradoxa isn't a Wisconsin native, but it is a North American native that I love having in the garden. It's the only naturally occurring "purple coneflower" that isn't purple. It's just starting the blooming process.
