Have been in 2 Sainsbury's in mega diverse parts of East London today, festooned with England flags, dozens in each aisle.
The locals of course don't find them remotely antagonistic - that's just a bit of snide projection by the damp middle class people who find flags icky

No premium above the minimum wage for 12 hour shifts starting at 6am in a large industrial bakery, in an area where the public transport starts well after 6. The wage incentives in the British economy now are an absolute shambles

Sensible conclusion - drug addicts are pushing their bodies to the absolute limit and will sometimes just die from a gust of wind.

Northern Ireland is proud of its journey to peace and reconciliation - there was a hard won period of 25ish years where people weren't being targeted and butchered by strangers like this.

Something I have never quite got my head around with 2001 is how turnout dropped *12%* but only 21 of the 641 GB seats changed hands. Surely even with all the parties stable, the differential turnout should have created a higher seat churn than that?

It's amazing to think that *this* result is one of the most forgotten UK elections in recent years. A landslide as big as the last and no one talks about it. Labour only lost 7 seats and actually gained one too.
Happy 25th anniversary to the 2001 general election.
