JWST has discovered a rapidly growing black hole in a very active phase, ~1.5 billion years after the Big Bang. Uniquely bright in X-rays, it is accreting at over 4000% of the Eddington limit, offering new insights into early black hole growth. Suh et al.: nature.com/articles/s41550-0…
.@gbwnzl et al. detect the radio signatures of two forms of cyanopyrene, a small molecular sheet of carbon, in a cold interstellar cloud known for its rich chemistry. Their findings shed light on the origin and fate of carbon matter in interstellar space:

Version 5 of Octofitter released today! (there's nothing else big going on in the news, right?)
I call this the "RV release", since there are across-the-board improvements to RV modelling performance and new features. 1/3

Currently Goldstone's 70m antenna DSS14 is supporting Voyager 1. The S-Band signal although tiny still sits proud above the noise letting us know its there.
.@JorgZavala et al. present an in-depth analysis of a JWST-discovered high-redshift galaxy at z=12.33. Combining images with the detection of atomic lines, they found extreme conditions in a bright galaxy, likely associated with a young starburst. nature.com/articles/s41550-0…

✨🔭 Research news! ✨🔭
A new study published in @RAS_Journals' #MNRAS suggests the first picture of the supermassive black hole at the heart of our Milky Way galaxy may not be a true reflection of its appearance. ⚫

WOW!! Exciting news today. I've been selected as a winner of the National Academies Eric and Wendy Schmidt Awards for Excellence in Science Communications (@SciCommAwards) given by @theNASEM in partnership with @schmidtsciences
Published in #MNRAS: "The masses, structure, and lifetimes of cold clouds in a high-resolution simulation of a low-metallicity starburst", Fotopoulou et al. This is Fig. 1: for the caption & to read the paper please visit academic.oup.com/mnras/artic…@OxfordJournals@RoyalAstroSoc
ALT Gas surface density maps (top panels) and mass-weighted gas temperature maps (bottom panels) of the central 3 kpc of the dwarf galaxy merger at three different stages: first encounter at 80 Myr (left), the second encounter and peak of star formation (middle panel), and at the new equilibrium configuration at 300 Myr (right panel). Dense (yellow) and cold (blue) gas is structured in clouds and filaments. The hot (red, bottom panel) gas is generated by supernova explosions.
The GALAH DR4 data release is out! ONE MILLION STARS! Here's our modified element table (including our data for 30 elements) - figure by Sven Buder. The other figures show theoretical time dependencies from Kobayashi, Karakas & Lugaro 2020.

Strong near-IR spectral features from asymptotic giant branch stars are detected by JWST in the integrated light from distant quiescent galaxies, clarifying their contribution to galaxy spectra and population synthesis models. Lu, Daddi, Maraston et al.: nature.com/articles/s41550-0…
