Our hearts are with the Calder family and loved ones over Kyle’s passing. An accomplished player and consummate teammate, Kyle was a steward for Southern California youth hockey players and his loss is being felt throughout our local community.
Our NHL Alumni family is deeply saddened by the passing of Kyle Calder. Today, we mourn not only a respected former NHL player but a cherished teammate, friend, and member of our hockey brotherhood. Kyle embodied the values that make our alumni family so special: his loyalty, toughness, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to those around him. He was tough as nails on the ice, a fierce competitor who never backed down, yet behind that grit was a teddy bear heart. Kyle cared deeply for his teammates, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was a protector, a loyal friend, and someone who always put others before himself. A proud Alberta native, Kyle enjoyed a successful 10-year NHL career with the Chicago Blackhawks, Philadelphia Flyers, Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, and Anaheim Ducks. Over the course of his 590 career games, he earned the respect of teammates, opponents, and fans alike through his relentless work ethic, determination, and character. Beyond his playing days, Kyle was devoted to giving back to the game he loved. He was actively involved in youth hockey and passionate about helping young players develop both on and off the ice. He took great pride in mentoring the next generation, and his impact on young athletes and their families will continue to be felt for years to come. Kyle will be greatly missed and forever remembered by our NHL Alumni Hockey family. The friendships he built, the lives he touched, and the memories he created will remain with us always. As Kyle often said, “Family over everything.” Those words were not just something he believed; they were the way he lived his life. His family was the centre of his universe, and his love, devotion, and pride in them were evident in everything he did. Our love, thoughts, prayers, and unwavering support are with the Calder family during this incredibly difficult time. We hope they find comfort in knowing how deeply Kyle was respected, admired, and loved by so many throughout the hockey community. Forever a teammate. Forever a member of our NHL Alumni family. Forever in our hearts. Never forgotten. ❤️🏒

Best Draft Picks In Flames History Joe Nieuwendyk was selected in the 2nd round of the 1985 draft. Nieuwendyk would go on to become the best centre in the history of the Calgary Flames organization putting up 616 points in 577 games. No other centres have come close to having similar production to the hockey hall of famer.

Hockey Night in Canada goes back much farther than 1952 when it first aired on television. National hockey on CRBC/CBC began in 1933, and Hockey Night in Canada was first used as the program's name in 1936. My Deep Dive on the history 👇 canadaehx.com/2022/07/30/hoc…

With this being the end of Hockey Night in Canada on CBC it only makes sense to post this. If you were a 90s kid like me, this is what you saw every Saturday night. The music, the intros, were as iconic as the games themselves. A very sad day.

Luke Adam has announced his retirement from professional hockey. From St. John’s, Newfoundland, Luke played major junior hockey with his hometown St. John’s Fog Devils of the QMJHL from 2006 to 2008 before being selected by the @BuffaloSabres in the second round of the 2008 @NHL Entry Draft. Luke continued his junior hockey career for an additional two seasons before turning pro and joining the Portland Pirates, Buffalo’s affiliate club, for the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs. Luke made his NHL debut the following season on October 26, 2010, and scored his first career NHL goal in his eighth career game on December 7, 2010. After 87 games with the Sabres from 2010 to 2014, Luke joined the Columbus @BlueJacketsNHL in December 2014, and would later play for the New York Rangers’ affiliate in Hartford during the 2015-16 season. Luke’s professional hockey career continued with Adler Mannheim in Germany the following year, playing three seasons with Mannheim, culminating in a league championship in 2019. Luke played seven seasons in Germany, followed by additional seasons in Czechia and Slovakia, before returning to North America in 2024, where he’d play his final two seasons. In a statement shared earlier today, Luke noted, “The game of hockey has given me more than I ever could have imagined. I leave with a heart full of gratitude, incredible memories, lifelong friendships, and immense pride in the journey.” Congratulations on your retirement, Luke, and welcome to the NHL Alumni Association!
