Couple of years ago I started a Wings discography listen. I never finished it. 🤦‍♂️ But I found out that there will be a Wings and Paul McCartney exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when I visit this summer so…I probably should finish my listens. “Venus and Mars” is next.

I don’t recall ever hearing anything about the movie “That Summer!” But the soundtrack for the film…totally great. Songs from Elvis, Nick Lowe, The Only Ones, Boomtown Rats and Ramones among others. Is this soundtrack a keeper? I think it just might be.

Found “All Four One” from The Motels on CD recently. Includes the classics “Only The Lonely” and “Take The L.” But is this album one that I need both on vinyl and on CD?

No… I’m not feeling blue. Even though it’s supposed to be record lows in Florida this weekend. Any time is a good time for Weezer’s “Blue” album. You know we did an episode about this album with little brother, right? What’s your favorite track on this classic?

Listened to Air Supply’s twelfth album from 1993 “The Vanishing Race” (Twelfth? What?). Did all mid 90’s adult contemporary sound the same? Or is this producer Humberto Gatica’s influence? He won awards for his work with Celine & Michael Buble & Josh Groban.

I was never a big fan of “Cantaloop”…the huge hit from Us3 from 1993. But, their influx of jazz and hip hop on other tunes intrigued me. The 2004 album “Questions” has an updated “Soul Mix” of the song. I like it better than the original. Any other fans of Us3?

I figured…for 59 cents, I’ll take another chance on a Ravi Shankar album. Found this “Live at Monterey 1967” album on a recent Goodwill Hunting trip. Even took Ravi’s advice from the album sleeve. The answer is still nope. I just don’t love the sitar. Probably never will.

K-Tel time! Spinning “Radio Active” from 1982. I guess Genesis is a bridge between Rick James and Devo? Mmm-k. I think my only skip would be “She’s a Bad Mama Jama.” I’m cranking up the rest…especially Blondie & The Moody Blues. Whatcha cranking off this compilation?

Soundtrack to my commute: Self titled Fleetwood Mac from 1975. Includes the hits “Say You Love Me” & “Over My Head” & “Rhiannon.” “Landslide” wasn’t a single but…come on…it’s one of the greatest songs EVER. Even with all those tunes…it’s my 5th favorite Mac album? Yours?

Sometimes I just need some 80’s dance pop to get my butt moving. Hence…”Exposure” from Expose. “Point of No Return” is a jam. 1987 Ben probably would not have admitted that. 2026 acknowledges. How’s your day going?

Next up: “Breakaway” from Art Garfunkel (1975). Includes his cover of “I Only Have Eyes for You” (which charted and peaked at #18) and his duet with Paul Simon (“My Little Town”) peaked at #9, their first work together since breaking part as a duo. Who knows this one?

Been a minute since I’ve listened to sole Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. You might just know them as OMD. I will never NOT crank up “Enola Gay” & “Secret.” I’m definitely tired of “If You Leave.” What OMD songs would you crank? What’s your favorite from them?

What are the chances? I mention Sheena Easton on our Dusty Springfield episode and then I find the rare early pressing of “Best Kept Secret” with her version of “Just One Smile.” Was it blasphemy to say I like Sheena’s version better?

Call this a research listen for an upcoming episode. I’ve said before that “Parallel Lines” is a good record but it’s not an essential record. I stand by that opinion. But it is their best record by far. Tell me why it is essential. Change my mind.

Spinning “The Age of Consent” from Bronski Beat. Includes the emotionally autobiographical song “Smalltown Boy.” I can do without their cover of “I Feel Love” however. I now own this on both CD and vinyl. Is this album worthy of multiple format ownership?

Next up: “Elan” from Firefall. Their third album from 1978. Includes the banger “Strange Way” which peaked at #11. Weird that I never owned this album until last week. We don’t talk enough about Firefall. What’s your favorite Firefall tune?

We did an episode about the 2nd Mamas and the Papas album two years ago with @Discograffiti… I finally added the album to the collection and time to give it a spin. I think I still hate their cover of “Dancing in the Streets.” 😄 Who listened to this episode?

45 time! Let’s hear some Rick Astley and the culture phenomenon that is “Never Gonna Give You Up.” I beat you’ve never heard the B side instrumental of the song, right? Getting Rick Rolled is so last decade, right?

There’s a lot about the band War that I like. But as a lyrics guy, that’s not one of them. So many of their songs are overly repetitive (I’m looking at you “Why Can’t We Be Friends” & “Life (Is So Strange)” among others). But I can’t deny the infectious nature of “Low Rider.”

Last year I was all excited about seeing a reformed Rilo Kiley. This year…I am all excited for a reformed Sugar. Who else is gonna road trip to Georgia in October with me and Wayne? I mean…it seems like a good idea? You know, she said it’s a good idea…she said, she said…
