One night I was reading someone's manuscript and found myself checking the time. Not because I was tired. Because the story refused to move. Full fuel, good engine, everything there — but the driver kept pressing brake for no reason.

Seeing what's wrong with your pacing and being able to fix it are two different things entirely. One is awareness. The other needs another pair of eyes, one that has sat with enough broken pacing to know exactly where to press.
