Scenes from the Utumishi Girls Academy requiem mass

We remain united in sorrow as we honour the lives of the 16 girls whose lives were tragically cut short. Though our daughters are no longer with us, the love, memories, and joy they shared will forever remain in our hearts. The National Police Service stands with the bereaved families during this difficult period of grief and remembrance. Their daughters will forever be remembered and cherished in our hearts.

The CS for Education, Hon. Julius Ogamba, today assured mourners that the Government takes matters of unrest and indiscipline with the seriousness they deserve. Acknowledging that grievances may exist, he emphasized that they must be addressed through lawful channels and not in ways that endanger lives or result in the destruction of property. He warned that those responsible for such acts would face the full force of the law.

The First Lady of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Rachel Ruto, today joined the Utumishi Girls Academy fraternity during the requiem mass for the 16 girls who tragically lost their lives in the fire tragedy. In her remarks, she acknowledged the deep pain of the bereaved families, saying, “Though our hearts are heavy, we give thanks for the joy our daughters brought while they were with us.” She further reflected, “Our daughters left home with dreams, never to return,” adding that the entire nation was standing with and mourning alongside the affected families during this difficult time.

No words can fully capture the weight of such a loss. These were the words of H.E. William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, in a message delivered by Education CS Julius Migos during the requiem mass for the 16 students who lost their lives in the Utumishi Girls Academy fire tragedy. The President assured grieving families that the Government would take decisive measures to prevent such a tragedy from ever bringing similar sorrow to another family.
