This dissertation investigates how elected officials make decisions under complex and informationrich conditions. Through studies in Latin America, the U.S., Germany, and Chile, Daniel demonstrates that politicians, despite their extraordinary roles, rely on cognitive shortcuts, emotional cues, and heuristics similar to those of ordinary citizens.
