My last tweet of the evening. If you care about about great journalism, please stop the “”I’ve canceled my subscription” thing. The @washingtonpost newsroom is a remarkable asset. There are questions around it but Cameron Barr is someone to trust. Just take a deep breath.

Um, oversees rather than overseas, which is the work he edited of mine.
All I know about the bylines is that if I got a call from @gregpmiller and he had concerns about the ethics of decisions I’ve made I would have two reactions: ok, he’s fair and ethical and wow he’ll find out everything. He’s the most complete, honest journalist I’ve worked with.

No one like him. And his writing is so good.
No one wants that phone call

What a great choice. One of the finest editors of his generation - cliche alert - but in this case truly deserved - fair, honest and so meticulous. So proud to have worked with him. I will trust the work he overseas. You all should.
Update: Former WashPost Senior Managing Editor Cameron Barr is now overseeing the paper's coverage of the controversies besetting publisher Will Lewis and his pick as its next editor, Rob Winnett.

Just finished Burn Coast by the great @DaleMaharidge. Vivid, spell-binding portrait of people and places at the edge of our continent and a clear-eyed elegy for the end of an era and ethos. Glad I didn’t read it before I tried to write about Humboldt; I would never have tried.

And a ship wreck - or a 30-foot sloop wreck - even before the main event. This one looks pretty derelict so probably had it coming in any storm swell.

Interesting story from my backyard... Pictures may offer a rare glimpse of a baby great white shark wapo.st/4bbFoO1 I wrote about this young (though no possible newborns) shark population a few years ago. washingtonpost.com/nation/20…

Thanks so much, Autumn, very grateful. I’ve also updated my goal given that my last one was for the 2022 effort.

that will extend beyond their terms of incarceration (and vastly widened my own reading interests.) But the expansion has increased the burn rate of the money I raised in 2022 to fund this project. So I’m asking you here to support a new round of funding to keep this going.

Yes, there is a “who’s saving whom” element to this project, which makes it personal to me. But I believe it has brought some joy to dozens of men who have participated in the group and a lasting sense of the magic found in great writing, whether read or written by the men
