The first country in the Andes to lose all of its glaciers #ClimateEmergency
#Venezuela has officially lost its last glacier after La Corona glacier on Humboldt peak, 4,900 meters above sea level, became too small to be classed as a #glacier. This makes Venezuela the first country in the Andes mountain range to lose all its glaciers.

Very sad to hear that Alejo Cochachin has died. Alejo was a leader in improving understanding of glaciers, lakes, and mountain ecoystems in the tropical Andes, and his passing leaves a huge void in the research community. My condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

This #dataviz shows the UK's warmest year on record. It has been relentlessly mild (or hot) all year apart from a 2 week cold spell at the beginning of December (which made it the only cold month). Overall the mean temperature exceeded 10°C for the first time ever! #globalwarming

An Antarctic giant for you today: the scale worm Eulagisca gigantea. This awesome worm is covered in scales (not in pic, which is the underside of the worm) and golden chaetae (the chitinous bristles that polychaetes are named for). #NoVERMber 📸Matthew Brown / NIWA

Yep, I think we as a community need to do better at communicating what tipping elements are, and that they do not (generally) imply runaway warming. As @jrockstrom's own recent Science paper shows we don't know a priori what the balance of global cooling and warming will be:
