New paper alert!!! π¨ In this article my former PhD student @StrepsiPrimate and I reviewed the current status of galagid taxonomy, phylogenetics, and biogeography, and explored future approaches to elucidate cryptic diversity in these neglected primates rdcu.be/dG80Q
It was really challenging to try to make up for this loss and their immense knowledge on the topic. This paper is dedicated to their memory. Their work on galago systematics will be deeply missed
I was happy to have the opportunity to involve my wonderful student/colleague Anna in this project. Somehow it felt right to pass the torch from my mentor, Judith, to my mentee, Anna. I'm so proud of her and I'm sure Judith would be as well π₯°
Join us for a transdisciplinary exploration of the interconnected realms of humans, plants, animals, and the environment, featuring invited talks by renowned anthropologists @PaigeWestNYC and @Anthrofuentes, a poster session with UTSA students, and a moderated discussion
I had a great time at #AABA2024 meeting old and new friends/colleagues. The highlight was taking this picture of Laurey Godfrey celebrating her Charles R. Darwin Lifetime Achievement Award. Congrats Laurey, well deserved!!!
Interested in studying primate phylogenetics, genomics, and climate change? I'm currently recruiting MA students to start in Fall 2024 at @UTSA (funding available). The deadline for MA application is April 1. If interested, contact me for more details future.utsa.edu/programs/masβ¦
Fantastic conference on the use of Generative AI in teaching and learning organized by @utsa_innovation! The student panel was the highlight: it was inspiring to hear their thoughts on the topic #innovateSATX
Congratulations Dr. Penna (aka @StrepsiPrimate)!!! It was a privilege to be your PhD advisor and I couldn't have hoped for a better first PhD student. The future of galago systematics is in great hands :) #proudadvisor
Need some advice from my academic peeps: what's your favorite popular science book about human evolution (in a broad sense)? #anthropology#humanevolution
Do you know what is better than one Endowed Professorship? Two Endowed Professorships π OMG I can't express how grateful I am for being selected as one of the Lutcher Brown fellows. Thanks to @UTSA and @UTSAanthro for the continuing support π₯Ή

Happy to present some of our work on galagid evolution and diversity using museum samples at #ipskuching . Most of this work was done by my amazing PhD student, Anna Penna @StrepsiPrimate
Russ Mittermeier @PrimateWatcher remembering my dear colleagues and friends, Judith and Fabien, who were killed last year in South Africa. This is my first IPS without Judith. I deeply miss her π₯ #IPSKuching
