Anyway here’s former Ole Miss RB Brandon Bolden talking about something similar.

Makes me wonder what he'll say about Baton Rouge/Louisiana when he inevitably leaves there in a few years.

ALT He Aintlyin Preach GIF

In explaining his decision to leave Ole Miss for LSU, Lane Kiffin seems willing to invoke Ole Miss's struggle to distance itself from symbols like the Confederate flag, Colonel Rebel, and the nickname "Ole Miss" itself. When he was coaching there, Kiffin says, top recruits would tell him, “‘Hey, coach, we really like you. But my grandparents aren’t letting me move to Oxford, Mississippi.’ That doesn’t come up when you say Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Parents were sitting here this weekend saying the campus’s diversity feels so great: ‘It feels like there’s no segregation’” vanityfair.com/news/story/la…

Th replies are full of people making points that don’t apply to what he’s saying. Lane is full of 💩 a lot, but he’s not lying. And it was the case lonnnng before he got to Ole Miss. if you weren’t from Mississippi, there was always a hesitation to give them a real shot.

NEW: Youth sports is now costing parents as much as $25,000 a year. Private equity and corporations are turning a childhood pastime into something only the wealthy can afford. Youth sports has become a $40 billion industry, and the steep costs are crushing American families.

I think about this a lot.
Anyway, it’s Toni Morrison’s birthday someone who I looked up to and found deep in inspiration in and someone I wish that was still here. She still lives through her art, though, which is a comfort.

It's genuinely sweet to see how this resonated with so many people but it does remind me of the Stav bit where he's like "80% of ethnic groups are exactly the same everyone's like oh we're always late, we eat a lot. You call strangers aunts. Only WASPs are not like this"

I don’t get what you win from debating people whose political project is founded on the idea that you’re naturally lesser than them and they will wield the power of the state and the billions available to them to create and uphold a system based on that idea.
