God blesses and uses different types of preaching.. not only just expository preaching.
BUT..
I would say that the number one reason that men choose to preach topically instead of expository is the amount of work and study involved.
It is easy to find a verse or two to go along with your 3 points and illustrations, but to dive into the text..it takes you out of it and makes it about the Word.
Expository preaching does not have to be boring and dry. The Bible message should be passionate and powerful because it is the Word that is alive and being expounded upon.
Expository preaching has helped build up our church growth from 87 people to nearly 600 every Sunday morning. People are hungry for the Word.
Try it.
My heart truly breaks for the victims and the families in this community.
One day, there will be no more killing of the innocent. No more confusion of genders. No more breaking into schools and churches. No more pain of earthly loss. No more schools with metal detectors. No more funerals. No death. No crimes committed.
All wrongs will be made right.
Jesus will fix it all. #PrayersForNashville
“1. Rightly divide the Word of truth.
Expository, biblical preaching declares what the Bible says, not what we want it to say.
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)
2. Exalt Jesus Christ. In every message, I want to lift up the cross and point both saved and lost listeners to Jesus.
And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. (Col. 1:18)
3. Equip the saints. It is the Word of God that brings spiritual maturity for life and service.
And he gave…pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: (Eph. 4:11–12)
Pastors, I encourage and challenge you, "Preach the Word!" Preach it rightly. Preach it to lift up Christ. And preach it to equip God's people to spiritual maturity.”

In preaching and teaching, nothing can replace the hard work of staring at the text - meditating, contemplating, connecting, interrogating, outlining - until the Spirit gives the “Ah... There is it.”
~J.A. Medders
“Expository preaching should have such a clear point that it sounds like a topical sermon, and topical preaching should be so rooted in scripture that it sounds like an expository sermon.” ~Dustin Messer
"I would say that the only man who is called to preach is the man who cannot do anything else, in the sense that he is not satisfied with anything else. This call to preach ...comes to bear upon him that he says, “I can do nothing else, I must preach.”
—Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Preach the Word.
In biblical context.
In historic context.
With love.
Without personal agenda.
With cultural relevance.
With practical application.
With humility.
With the fear of God.
Without the fear of man.
In light of the grand narrative of Scripture.
Preach the Word.
The preacher’s task is to display Christ: to explain man’s need of Him, His sufficiency to save & His offer of Himself in the promises as Savior to all who truly turn to Him& to show as fully and plainly as he can how these truths apply to the congregation before Him. J.I. Packer
