I don’t have a strong opinion on seeding for the state basketball tournaments. I know the soccer coaches in our area have been pleased with how seeding has worked for them.
What I don’t like is using MaxPreps to determine the strength of schedule. Because as we know, not everyone reports to MaxPreps. You could conceivably play and beat a very good team from out of state and if they don’t report to them, it would only count as a win over a .500 team.
Additionally, you’ve opened up the possibility of teams from the same region or district meeting before the final. For example, Bartlett boys would have been the top seed and Whitehaven would have been fifth. They would have met in the semis had they both won in the quarters.
But like I said, it’s working really well with soccer. So we’ll see how it goes.
