In Australia 2014 there were 2.3million Australians living in poverty @ACOSS in 2021 3.8million Australians, and in 2022 its 4million people- 1.2m are children. The status quo is unacceptable, people are falling through the cracks of progress. Something needs to shift #auspol

Treasury’s 2020 Retirement Income Review stated:
“The existence of many ‘asset rich income poor’ retirees on the Age Pension suggests home equity release has significant potential to help support retirement incomes.”

The risk is cumulative and predictable. The problem is systemic and gendered.
It’s not easing anytime soon unless we reform super, housing & labour market

I fully support @WilkieMP‘s call for a conscience vote on gambling reform.
The Xbench will keep pushing for the implementation of the Murphy review in full even of the major parties won’t.
Older women “could” retire in poverty is an understatement! Too many women already have fallen into homelessness and poverty, women over 55 are the fastest growing group of homeless abc.net.au/news/2025-09-30/s…
So many have raised the alarm on women and retirement in the last 5 years including reports by Actuaries Institute , Workplace Gender Equality Agency , ASFA | The Voice of Super and PrimeLife Partners all pointing to the need for greater reform and education.
Great to see the industry catch up on the reality of too many women facing poverty in retirement, our prediction … it equally affect anyone who is single, renting, and with low superannuation balances. The problem is gendered and generational.

As of yesterday all toilets in rentals must be dual flush, with a minimum 3-star Water Efficiency Labelling to meet legally prescribed water efficiency measures. If these standards aren't met, the landlord cannot pass on water usage charges to the tenant. tinyurl.com/3mfaebc8
Under this budget a nurse will pay more tax than one third of big corporations in Australia. If that nurse is a renter, they may never be able to buy a home because they'll be competing with investors with massive tax handouts from this budget.
That is desperately unfair.
