Loved having @GovEvers in Laona to showcase everything we are doing in Laona!
With child care on-site and opportunities for students to get college credit while they're still in high school, Laona is connecting the dots between child care, education, and our workforce. wjfw.com/evers-visits-laona-…

I’m proud to have worked this past year on completing this “brain-based” model of education as a trainer. Tons of research and work, but I’m excited to lead this program as the pilot school in the state of Wisconsin. Thank you, @BDPerry and @NeuroSequential for the opportunity.

I’ll be bold in saying I have kicked AP to the side and worked directly with colleges in order for my students to earn guaranteed college and high school credits. Less stress, less financial burden, and more flexibility. This helps our students be future ready.
The 2023 AP US Government and Politics scores: 5: 13%; 4: 11%; 3: 25%; 2: 24%; 1: 27%. These scores and the required points are consistent over the past decade. I wish colleges were less stringent in the points they require for 3s/4s/5s in this subject!

Something to think about… When a child is in a state of fear, their functional IQ can drop up to 40 points. If a child is in a state of terror, their IQ can drop up to 50 points. -Dr. Bruce D. Perry #maslowbeforebloom

“Maslow Before Bloom” An educator at one of my recent trainings on challenging behaviors, trauma and mental health stated that he consistently takes away recess as a consequence, punishment and as a deterrent. Remember that even prisoners get daily time on the yard for movement and physical activity. I personally struggle with the logic in taking away movement/recess. We punish a student for being overly active, lacking focus, not completing work, and as a result disrupting the learning of others by taking away that which would most likely benefit them the most. Wouldn’t a better strategy for reducing these behaviors be to pro-actively “prescribe” more movement and physical activity during the school day (i.e. running, circuit training, yoga, martial arts, etc.)? Health experts recommend a minimum of 60 minutes of exercise per day for a "typical" child age 6 and above. The same experts say that long term sitting is considered as bad for the body as smoking. They also recommend movement breaks every 30 minutes. How many of your students are getting enough exercise and movement at school or at home? How many of them sit too much at school and are in front of a screen the rest of the day at home? I truly believe that we have to focus on interventions and strategies that are logical, effective and most likely to produce positive outcomes for our students. Basic human needs first! A quick story about what we are doing in Laona to retain and recruit staff to rural Wisconsin.
Despite the Laona School District being located in a rural area, they’re doing well with staffing. wjfw.com/news/laona-school-d…

Just finished @AlanGratz “Ground Zero” with my son. Not a single student in my school district was alive during 9/11, but they face the aftermath. Over 20 years of being in a “national state of emergency.” How does that impact our kids and our lives? #mentalhealth

Teachers... When a toxic person can no longer control you, they will try to control how others see you. The misinformation will feel unfair, but stay above it, trusting that other people will eventually see the truth. Be brave, be honest, stand tall and stay above it.
